Also, he thought "panku" was English. He was so nervous to ask. You should be careful when you have a flat on the freeway. Women are advised to never accept rides from strangers. They are to stay in their cars. Americans are also hesitant about talking to strangers. There are some strange perverts roaming around.
先日、車を運転していた際、タイヤがパンクしてしまいました。何とか駐車スペースに車を止め、パンクの修理に取り掛かりました。しかし、長年パンクの修理などやったことがなかったので、うまくいきません。結局、パンクの一時補修用ボンベを買いに走ることにしました。自動車部品コーナーの陳列棚を探し回ったのですが、なかなか見つかりません。店の人に尋ねる段になって、補修用ボンベをどのように表現してよいものやら、またパンクという言葉は英語とばかり思っていたものですから、状況説明に大いに汗をかきました。
パンクは、puncture を援用した和製英語でしょう。ガラスの破片でタイヤに穴があきました。／My tire was punctured by a piece of glass. といった使い方をします。My tire has a puncture. の表現もありますが、通常は、My tire has a hole. となります。パンク一時補修用ボンベは、Aerosol tire inflator と言いますが、私はメーカーの名付けた商品名（例えば、Fix-a-flat）を直接言って購入しています。関連する表現例をあげてみましょう。
