When Osamu went shopping, he often wanted to touch and see the items up close. But the nice things were usually locked in a display case. He wanted to ask the salesperson but he had to explain which one he wanted to see. He also had to decline if he didn't want it so he just left the store.
買い物に出かけた際、お店の中で商品を、実際に手にとって見たくなることがよくあります。しかし、ともすると魅力的な商品は、鍵付きの陳列ケースの中に奥深くおさまっています。店の人に頼んでみようかとも思うのですが、指さすだけではすまない場合、また、わざわざ出してもらって買わない時、断わる際の面倒を考えると、気後れがして店を後にすることがしばしばです。
単に商品を見せてもらうだけならば、Thank you. と言って商品を返すだけで十分です。しかし、必要以上に店員さんをわずらわせた場合には、何か言葉を添えたくなるかも知れません。そんな時、断わる際の表現例そして、商品を指示する表現例をあげてみましょう。
上から（下から）二番目の棚の、赤いバッグを見せて下さい。
I’d like to see that red bag. It’s on the ssecond shelf from the top (from the bottom).
あなたの後ろの棚にある、白いのを見せて下さい。
I’d like to see the white one on the shelf behind you.
ありがとう。もう少し見て回りますので。
