電球が切れました。
Osamu was reading books in his hotel room. He realized that the light was flickering so he wanted to ask the front desk about it. He didn't know what to say so he just watched TV instead of reading his book.
ホテルの部屋で本を読んでいました。何やら光がチラチラするのでスタンドに目をやると電球がいまにも切れそうです。早速、フロントに連絡をとって電球を取り替えてもらいたいのですが、いざ連絡する段になると適当な表現も浮かばず、結局、テレビを見ることにしました。
日頃、何気なく使っている言葉を、いざ英語に置き換えようとすると困ってしまう場合がよくあります。いくつかの表現例をあげてみましょう。ちなみに、すべての電球が切れてしまうと停電（blackout、 power outage）ということになりますね。
電球が切れました。
The light bulb went out (burned out).
蛍光灯が切れました。
The florescent light bulb burned out.
電球がユラユラと明滅しています。
The light bulb is flickering.
電球がもうじき切れそうです。
The light is almost burned out.
