A conversation between a patient and a doctor about subarachnoid hemorrhage
Patient:
I hear that some, usually healthy people, collapse suddenly because of a subarachnoid hemorrhage. I understand that the cause is a congenital malformation of blood vessels in the brain.

日頃、健康な人が突然くも膜下出血で倒れたという話を聞きます。これは脳の血管に先天的な奇形があるのが原因だそうですね。

Doctor:
Subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs when bleeding occurs from an aneurysm that developed at the bifurcation of arteries in the region of the base of the brain. Extreme headache and vomiting are associated symptoms. Unfortunately, severe cases rarely survive. But mild cases that receive early medical attention from neurosurgeons are said to be saved at nearly 90%. New advanced techniques make it possible to detect aneurysm before hemorrhage occurs. As people with congenital aneurysm often have seizures and headaches, they are strongly recommended to see specialists.

くも膜下出血は、脳底部の動脈の分岐部にできた動脈瘤（血管のコブ）が破裂し、出血するものですが、激しい頭痛と嘔吐を伴います。重症の場合は、残念ながら助かる率は低いのですが、小発作の場合や早期に脳外科専門医に診てもらうことで九割近くは助かると言われています。新しい技術の開発で、出血が起こる前に、動脈瘤を見つける事が可能になっています。動脈瘤奇形は先天的な病気ですが、しばしば、けいれんや頭痛を伴います。是非、専門医の検査をお受けになることをお勧めします。
